Eco-Friendly Takes a Turn

Vulture Mag. has a great post about an art exhibit in New York at P.S.1., International Shoes, featuring Finnish artist Anni Rapinoja.

Less practical than sequins, but much more interesting than faux leather or snakeskin:

Tip Your Hat!

Albertus Swanepoel is a milliner originally from South Africa, designing hats with appearances in collections by Proenza Schouler, Betsey Johnson, and Marc by Marc Jacobs:

Paper Dolls

Paper doll dresses were literally a throwaway commercial trend in the '60s, an intersection of advertising, fashion and art by Andy Warhol.

Not such a terrible consideration in the summer heat:

Such a Deer

I adore this photo of Audrey Hepburn grocery shopping in Beverly Hills with her pet deer, Ip (1958), taken by Bob Willoughby. Willoughby is a photographer well-known for an ability to take behind-the-scenes photos of stars in candid moments, both on and off-set in the Hollywood era of the '50s and '60s :

My Style Icon: Little Edie Beale

Grey Gardens (1975), a documentary film by Albert and David Maysles, reveals a portrait of New York socialites Little Edie Beale and her mother Edith Beale in their decrepit East Hamptons estate.

A former haute couture model and debutante in the '30s and '40s, Little Edie spent most of her life with her mother as they spiraled into isolation and a world of their own.  The film captures their relationship and a no-frills glimpse at the voyeuristic tendencies of American culture to gape at celebrity and high-society, as if nothing were ever amiss.

A family member of the Beales formed Grey Gardens Collections, a
collection of vintage jewelry, accessories, journals, and home furnishings, inspired by Little Edie's personal style.

Jezebel has a great post on Ola Hudson, the designer behind David Bowie's outfits in "The Man Who Fell to Earth" (1976), also the mother of Slash in Guns 'n Roses.

Betsey Johnson on '60s flair and Edie Sedgwick

An interview with Betsey Johnson on Edie Sedgwick and her irretrievable style borne out of the '60s, with heavy black eye makeup, short tank dresses and tights.
