joie de vivre

Podcast and slide show in the New Yorker about Godard, Truffaut and the French New Wave.
Both Jean-Luc Godard and Francois Truffaut were journalists that wrote for the cinema publication Cahiers du Cinema before they were film directors. I actually own a copy of "Hitchcock", by Truffaut, an interview/film analysis on Alfred Hitchcock that was published in the '80s.
Holly Brubach's column in the New York Times' Style Magazine

Holly Brubach writes about the challenges on the evolving cultural landscape in China from economic development relevant to the luxury goods market:

Vintage Wear for a Pie-Maker

I am a fan of actress Anna Friel's wardrobe on "Pushing Daisies", mostly '50s era pieces like full skirts, wide-brimmed hats and Greta Garbo sunglasses, along with floral prints. The occasional dash of mod and bright make-up match the tone of the show itself, which is peppy and upbeat with a dark side lurking in the shadows. Presumably, that is, adorning black Garbo shades. New episodes in the fall, although I've been catching up online:

function over style?

This video clip from the 1930s predicts what "environmentally-conscious" clothes will come off as in the new millineum:

Zine Exhibit in Los Angeles

Zines, or fanzines, are an alternative for artists to get their material out to the viewing public and typically considered as what was once an underground phenomenon. The emergence of blogs as a way to spark interest in a subject or topic of interest is further reinforced by the prior existence of zines. Despite the influence of the internet on building an audience or fan base for an artist, a zine's more that just a marketing tool per se, for both fan and composer.
Ooga Booga is opening an exhibition by zine publisher Nieves Library in Los Angeles. The exhibition opens on March 6th and runs from March 7th-April 3rd, featuring such artists as Mari Eastman and Ari Marcopoulos. Here is a link to the exhibition for further information: http://oogaboogastore.com.
